Solemn Whispers Devotional – “Jesus Teaching About Prayer”

MEMORY VERSE: Mathew 6 :9-13 –“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father Which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom Come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever, Amen”

How to pray has always been with varied understanding and different interpretations amongst Christians. Some believe if you don’t Scream, _”Holy Ghost Fire burning”_ prayers, you have not started. Some believe you should pray gently inside your heart and God will hear you. They are all forms of prayers but let’s look at the perfect example Jesus Christ gave us.

From our Lord’s Prayer, what starts the Prayer isTHANKSGIVING/PRAISE- enter His gate with thanksgiving. In fact, more of Jesus’ Prayer was thanksgiving – it is worth emulating.

The next is Kingdom prayers. That the Kingdom of God may happen here on earth. It is a fruitful secret to open doors when we pray for the Kingdom: for sinners to be saved etc.

Intercession: Most times our intercession takes the whole time: asking for this or that but in Jesus’ prayer, it was just one and direct. We are asked to pray without ceasing so that at each point in time we intercede for one thing.

Prayer of forgiveness. Do not cover your sins, lay them bare before God (Psa 66:18).

Protection: In as much as Warfare prayers are wonderful prayers, here, Jesus taught us to pray more to God for protection (Psa 61:11).

Thanksgiving /Praise: We sign off (close) the prayers with Thanksgiving. It is obvious then that 60% of our Prayers should be thanksgiving.

It took me years to understand this. Most of my prayers is usually Warfare but gradually, understanding came and l switched to this simple Prayer format and it has been awesome. If we follow the Prayer format of Jesus, praying at all times, we will get better results. Do not think that 1 minute Prayer is a joke, but there is also a time for hours prayers with lifting of our Voices as Jesus did but in a secret and quiet place where Neighbours would not be angry that _he is praying_.

In a way of conclusion, simple Prayer in Jesus’ format remains the most effective. When there is no much time to give to prayers, concentrate on thanking God and utter that one request, depending on the situation. Say it out because with our mouth confession is made. That does not include shouting to disturb others. Jesus tagged it as Prayer of the hypocrites (when you have to shout for people to know…).

PRAYER: Lord give us the grace to pray according to your will and follow the format you have prescribed for us. Amen🙏🏻.
