Devotional: So Much Can Be Achieved In Unity

(2 Chro. 30:12, Gen. 34:13-31)

MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psm. 133:1).

Unity is oneness, togetherness, speaking with one voice, having and moving in the same direction, and for a purpose. Tell me of a people who ever achieved anything good or bad, and I will show you a people who were united.

Although a negative one, the oneness that erected the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11) is a great example of unity. What caught God’s attention wasn’t their act, but their oneness. “and the LORD said, the people is one, and they all have one language, and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them…” (Gen 11:6). Indeed there’s a mystery in unity.

“Can two walk together except they agree” (Amos 3:3). Mat. 18:19 still shows the power of unity. Through unity, Heaven honours whatever is done on earth.

The church has achieved relatively little because of disunity. “All thanks to our greatest problem: DENOMINATIONALISM”. We have to take off the cloak of denominationalism and see ourselves as who we are – parts of the same body which need each other.

Unity is built and maintained by love. So let the love of Christ have it’s work in you. “How does one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight…” (Deut. 32:30a). This is possible, only when the people are united!

PRAYER: Let there be peace and unity in the church, and in Nigeria.
